From Cheadle, follow the B5417 to Oakamoor. Descend down a steep bank. At the bottom of the bank, take a sharp right hand turning (follow brown tourist signs for Ramblers Retreat).Follow the road for approx ¼ mile. Take the 1st left turning (Red Road). The Ramblers Retreat is approx ½ mile down this road.
From Uttoxeter – Head to Alton. Proceed through Alton village . Descend down steep bank. Take sharp turn left at the bottom of bank (follow brown tourist sign for Ramblers Retreat). Continue forward following Red Road for approx ½ mile and the Ramblers Retreat is located on the left.
From Ashbourne / Leek, – Head to Oakamoor. Proceed through the village crossing the bridge over the river. Take next left turning (follow brown tourist sign for Ramblers Retreat Follow road for approx. 1/4 mile. Take first left turning (Red Road. Ramblers Retreat is approx. 1/2 mile down this road on the right.)
Follow the flat, gravelled greenway from Oakamoor for approximately 25 minutes, until you reach Lord’s Bridge- a stone railway bridge crossing above the greenway. Leave the greenway by the steps on your left or go under the bridge and use the ramp a few meters further. Cross Lord’s Bridge over the greenway and over the River Churnet, and follow the trail for 2 minutes until you reach a wooden gate, from this gate, you will see the entrance to Dimmingsdale & the Ramblers Retreat.
From the car park, go left toward Alton Station and follow the flat, gravelled greenway from Alton for approximately 10 minutes. You’ll be able to walk through Alton Station, now a holiday cottage until you reach Lord’s Bridge- a stone railway bridge crossing above the greenway. Leave the greenway by the ramp on your right, just before the bridge or go under the bridge and use the steps a few meters further. Cross Lord’s Bridge over the greenway and over the River Churnet, and follow the trail for 2 minutes until you reach a wooden gate, from this gate, you will see the entrance to Dimmingsdale & the Ramblers Retreat.
From the gate, follow the flat, gravelled greenway from Denstone for approximately 45 minutes. You’ll be able to walk through Denstone Station, past Alton Castle & Alton Mill as well as Alton Station; now a holiday cottage. Keep following the greenway until you reach Lord’s Bridge- a stone railway bridge crossing above the greenway. Leave the greenway by the ramp on your right, just before the bridge or go under the bridge and use the steps a few meters further. Cross Lord’s Bridge over the greenway and over the River Churnet, and follow the trail for 2 minutes until you reach a wooden gate, from this gate, you will see the entrance to Dimmingsdale & the Ramblers Retreat.
